Joan Mosca, a loving and kind woman whose warmth touched everyone she met, passed away on June 30, 2026, at the age of 92.
Born on March 7, 1934, in Mt. Vernon, New York, Joan grew up with strong family values and a deep appreciation for the people around her. She attended St. Gabriel’s High School and carried the lessons of her upbringing throughout her life. Mt. Vernon remained close to her heart always, and she later spent many meaningful years in Pelham and New Rochelle, where she built a life filled with friendship, family, and community.
Joan devoted much of her professional life to caring for others as a phlebotomist at Mt. Vernon Hospital and Scarsdale Medical Group. In those roles, she was known not only for her skill and reliability, but also for her gentle manner and reassuring presence.
Outside of work, Joan was the heart of her home and neighborhood. She was a great cook and baker. She was often described as the neighborhood mother, a title that reflected the care, guidance, and kindness she offered so freely. Joan had many lifelong friends, and her home was a place where people felt welcome, loved, and remembered.
Family was central to Joan’s life. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William, her son William “Billy,” and her daughter Lynn. She is survived by her sister Marilyn, her granddaughters Alexis and Samantha, daughter in law Michelle and many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory. Her family will remember her for her loving spirit, her steady presence, and the many ways she showed her devotion over the years.
Visitation hours will be Tuesday, July 7, from 3-6 PM at the Yannantuono Burr Davis Sharpe Funeral Home, 584 Gramatan Avenue, Mt. Vernon NY. A mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, July 8, at 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter & Paul-St. Ursula Church, 129 East Birch Street, Mount Vernon, NY.
