St. Paul’s Church National Historic Site will present authors speaking on the Pullman strike of 1893 and Freedom Land U.S.A., the amusement park that briefly operated in the Bronx in the 1960s.

The church is at 897 South Columbus Ave. in Mount Vernon.

Sat. August 31, 1 PM.: As we approach Labor Day, a presentation exploring the history and significance of the Pullman strike of 1894, by author and historian Jack Kelly, based on his forthcoming book, “The Edge of Anarchy: The Railroad Barons, the Gilded Age, and the Greatest Labor Uprising in America”.

Sat. Sept. 7, 1 PM.: Michael Virgintino explores Freedom Land, the short lived but memorable historical amusement theme park of the early 1960s that welcomed thousands of visitors on the land now home to Co-Op City, in the northern Bronx. He is the author of the recently published, “Freedom Land U.S.A.: The Definitive History.”
