Since August, four young ladies from The Westchester Arc’s Choices Neighborhood program have volunteered at TMC (The Manor Club) in Pelham every Tuesday. This has given them an opportunity to learn employment skills and to socialize with fellow Choices group members and members of TMC.

They serve as wait staff and have completely reorganized the kitchen, labeling compartments among other things.

“For several years, Jennifer Mauro has represented The Arc Westchester ‘Choices’ program at TMC (The Manor Club). She has made a positive contribution and is so well liked by our members that we wanted to continue and extend our relationship with The Arc,” sais TMC President Alice Dean.

“We were delighted to welcome three additional young ladies, Ana Torres, Haley Mc-Cormick Thompson, and Samantha Reina, along with their coordinator, Cathy Ortiz, to TMC and with Jennifer, they have become a significant part of our Tuesday program”

The Manor Club was founded in 1913, when a group of women rescued the club and the building itself, after the previous organization began to struggle financially. Since then, the Manor Club has been a center for culture and history for its members and Pelham as well as surrounding communities, providing opportunities to listen to notable speakers, see a Broadway production or participate in a book club.

Every Tuesday, the Club hosts a luncheon for its members. The Choices Neighborhood group assists in the preparation of these luncheons. Preparing the food, the dining area, registration, serving, and clean up.

Annette Mauro, who manages the day-to-day operations at the Manor Club, is overjoyed to have the group involved and said: “It presents a wonderful opportunity for these girls to interact with our members and for them to gain work experience and skills; but what’s really wonderful is the friendships that they develop with one another. They help and look out for one another and enjoy being together!”

Tibi Guzman, CEO and Executive Director of The Westchester Arc, said: “We are very grateful for our partnership with The Manor Club and the valuable experience gained by our Choices Neighborhood group. The Manor Club represents one of over 250 business partners we have in our Westchester Community.”
