Rotary Scholars of the Month: PMHS seniors Alyssa Wong and Elizabeth Walters

Pelham Memorial High School seniors Alyssa Wong and Elizabeth Walters were honored at the Rotary Club of the Pelhams luncheon on June 5 as Marilyn Stiefvater Scholars of the Month. Both plan to attend Boston University in the fall.

Alyssa Wong is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Science, Math, English and Social Studies honor societies. She was also a National Latin Exam silver medalist. Her extracurricular activities include Philosophy Club, Human Rights Club, Latin Club, Women’s Empowerment Club, Social and Political Activism Club and Physics Club. She is also a dancer, plays the flute and participated in the Regeneron Pharmaceuticals High School Mentorship Program for two summers.

Elizabeth Walters is a member of the Science and Math honor societies, won National Exams Spanish medals and won the Holy Cross Book Award. Her extracurricular activities include Women’s Empowerment Club, Habitat for Humanity Club, and Social and Political Activism Club. She worked on the PMHS yearbook as copy editor and also took photos and designed layouts.

In addition to recognizing two PMHS students as Scholars of the Month during the school year, Rotary Club of the Pelhams awards a $10,000 scholarship to a graduating PMHS senior annually. Funds for the scholarship are collected from donations by community members and Rotarians. Tax deductible donations made payable to Pelham Rotary Charities Fund  with the memo “scholarship” may be mailed at any time of the year to Rotary, PO Box 8073, Pelham, NY 10803.
