The season for the second annual Lieutenant Joseph Leavey Bocce League has come to a conclusion. Over 20 teams competed in the league this year. According to a brief statement provided, for the second straight season, La Squadra Della Destino, the team of Andy Lyons and Ralph Pilla, won the championship.

The league is intended to raise money for the Lieutenant Joseph Leavey Foundation. The same statement states that Leavey was a Pelham resident who was a Lieutenant with FDNY Ladder 15 at the South Street Seaport. Leavey and Ladder 15 were among the first firefighters to arrive at the scene of the tragic attack on the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001. Leavey lost his life that day while rendering assistance to those who needed it.

The Lt. Joseph Leavey Foundation has supported a variety of local projects, and has given scholarships to Pelham students.
