Lance Brady and Asher Lal named Rotary Scholars of the Month

PMHS seniors Lance Brady and  Asher Lal, both National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists, were recognized as Marilyn Stiefvater Scholars of the Month by the Rotary Club of the Pelhams at its meeting on Sept. 18.

Asher Lal is president of the PMHS chapter of the National Honor Society and a member of the Science, Math, Social Studies, English and Spanish honor societies. She has received awards in Behavioral Science and in Parasitology and Anatomy and Physiology. Her extracurricular activities include the presidency of the Student Association as well as membership in Science Olympiad, Math Team, Biology Club and Science Research. Asher’s volunteer activities include her work as social media coordinator for the League of Women Voters of New Rochelle.

Lance Brady is vice president of the PMHS chapter of the National Honor Society and a member of Science, Math, Social Studies, English and World Language honor societies. He has won science competitions and is an AP Scholar with Distinction. His extracurricular activities include participation in Sock-n-Buskin musicals, PMHS Chorus, PMHS Band and Jazz Band and PMHS Math Team. In athletics, he co-founded the boys swimming team and runs in cross country, plays lacrosse and is on the winter track team. Lance’s volunteer activities include Huguenot Memorial Church service missions, Midnight Runs and the Handbell Group.

In addition to recognizing two PMHS students as Scholars of the Month during the school year, Rotary Club of the Pelhams awards a $10,000 scholarship to a graduating PMHS senior annually. Funds for the scholarship are collected from donations by community members and Rotarians. Tax deductible donations made payable to Pelham Rotary Charities Fund  with the memo “scholarship” may be mailed at any time of the year to Rotary, PO Bo 8073, Pelham, NY 10803.
