Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Stephen Luciana will be leaving the Pelham Union Free School District at the conclusion of the school year, according to a post by Ray Gallagher, sports editor at the Examiner Media group. His departure was confirmed by a source in the district who asked to remain anonymous because they were not approved to speak for the district.

Gallagher further reported that Luciana had an initial deal in place to join the Mahopac Central School District as its next athletic director, although it still needed to be finalized. Luciana would replace outgoing Mahopac Athletic Director Frank Miele.

Luciana joined the Pelham district in 2013, following time with Yonkers Public Schools. During his tenure, Pelham has enjoyed significant success, including several section titles and numerous college commitments. Included in this success was a four-year section championship run by the Pelham Hockey team, which culminated in a 2017 Division 2 State title, a 2018 boys lacrosse state semifinal appearance, 2013 boys soccer state tournament appearance, as well as multiple individual state championship appearances in track and field and swimming.

Luciana and Pelham schools spokesman Alex Wolff declined to comment. Mahopac Superintendent Anthony DiCarlo has not responded to a request for comment.
