FRI, JUNE 12: Virtual Discussion with Former Vogue Editor André Leon Talley
André Leon Talley, former editor of Vogue Magazine, will join the Friends of North Castle Library for the next installment of its “Speaker Series” this Friday. The virtual discussion and Q&A will focus on Talley’s new revealing autobiography, The Chiffon Trenches, which provides behind-the-scenes insights of the world of high fashion. Begins at 7:30pm via Zoom.
SAT, JUNE 13: Zoom Workshop for Children with Vicky Youngman
Blue Door Art Center’s Saturday online workshop series continues with teaching artist Vicky Youngman who will be making a 3-D frame using a technique called paper quilling. Quilling involves rolling strips of paper tightly around a long thin object, such as a toothpick or thin paint brush handle. Participants will learn how to transform paper strips into different shapes to create a frame. Begins at 10am.
SUN, JUNE 14: Jitterbugs Jazz for Kids @ Home
This Sunday, Jazz Forum Arts will present its first “Jitterbugs Jazz for Kids @ Home” online class for families with children aged 2-7. During the class, two instructors will lead children through interactive music games. Participants will also learn about jazz through storytelling, movement, listening and playing with instruments. Begins at 10:30am via Zoom.
SUN, JUNE 14: A Conversation with Derrick Adams and Alison Rose Jefferson
Hudson River Museum will host a virtual conversation with artist Derrick Adams and historian Alison Rose Jefferson, M.H.C., Ph.D., this Sunday. Adams and Jefferson will explore the theme of water in modern African American history—from segregation to the present day. The topic has particular resonance to the artist’s work in his Derrick Adams: Buoyant exhibition, and during this time of civil unrest. Begins at 2pm.
WED, JUNE 17: Pulitzer Finalist George Packer on Repairing America’s Values
Jay Heritage Center invites audiences to a virtual conversation with journalist and novelist George Packer, who will discuss his award-winning book The Unwinding: An Inner History of the New America. The 2013 book incorporates individual stories to document the drastic social, political and economic upheaval the United States has experienced over the past three decades. Begins at 7:30pm.
