ALBANY, N.Y. — Maggie Klein has received the 2020 NYSCAL Volunteer of the Year Award from the New York State Health Facilities Association/New York State Center for Assisted Living (NYSHFA/NYSCAL).
Ms. Klein received the award for her volunteer service at Willow Towers Assisted Living in New Rochelle, New York. Maggie has volunteered for three years to lead a current events group. She shares her passion for learning with the residents twice a week, engaging in intelligent, thought-provoking and lively discussions about local and world happenings. Throughout the week Maggie collects news publications, which she brings to the facility to share with the group. Many of the residents are well-read, retired teachers, accountants, lawyers and other professionals, and say Maggie’s group is the best part of their week. Her kind manner creates a space for everyone to be heard.
“Maggie’s commitment and dedication to our residents is greatly appreciated,” said Nora O’Brien, executive director of Willow Towers Assisted Living. “Her volunteerism is truly exemplary and deserving of this prestigious award from NYSHFA/NYSCAL.
NYSCAL’s Volunteer of the Year Awards Program recognizes outstanding volunteers serving in adult care/assisted living facilities. Winners receive an engraved obelisk and will be honored at the NYSHFA/NYSCAL Virtual Annual Conference in September.
