Solomon’s candidate statement for Pelham trustee: ‘Our best days are ahead of us’

Editor’s note: This statement was provided by Russell Solomon, Democratic candidate for the Village of Pelham Board of Trustees.

Russell Solomon (Deborah Lowery)

My name is Russell Solomon, and I am running for Village of Pelham Trustee.

In 2007, my wife Jessica and I decided to plant our roots in Pelham to raise our family. Through visiting friends who’d moved here we discovered that the area’s quaint, friendly charm suited us. It’s been a fantastic place to call home, and we love being part of the community as neighbors, friends, colleagues, and, best of all, parents to our three children, Rachel (11), Aaron (9), and Ben (8).

I’ve always had a “roll up your sleeves” attitude–when I see a need, I step in to help. My background is in marketing, and I have a long history of putting my professional experience to work helping local businesses and nonprofits. For example, I participated in the rebranding efforts for the Pelham Public Library’s identity, supported the recent census drive, and collaborated with the Chamber of Commerce to refocus and brand their message. I volunteer my skills at my synagogue and serve on our local Democratic Committee. I’ve learned a lot about politics as a campaign manager and campaign consultant for elected officials at the local, county, and state levels. It’s taught me that everyone’s opinion is important and matters, regardless of ideology. When you’re working towards a common goal, there’s room for everyone at the table. Education is also critically important to me; I devote time to our schools. I am a substitute teacher in the PUFSD and have volunteered at Hutchinson Elementary.

Pelham has so much to offer, and I believe our best days are ahead of us. I look forward to promoting Pelham’s many great qualities to more New Yorkers outside our village and believe that as a Trustee, my professional experience will complement Mayor Mullen and the Board’s initiatives. As previous Trustees step down, new candidates must step up, and I am honored to have a chance to add a fresh perspective to the conversation. I pledge to be an open, honest, and available voice in our community.

I ask for your support and vote for myself and my Democratic running mates Kim McGreal and Hanan Kamal Eldahry on Election Day. I welcome your questions, comments, or thoughts at [email protected].
