William Hurlbut Hargett, Sr. – Nov. 15

William Hurlbut Hargett, Sr., of Pelham, NY passed away November 15, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was 74 years old. Bill was born August 13, 1946 in Springfield, Ohio and had two sisters. He later grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and came every summer to Pelham Manor to visit his grandma, Erna Hurlbut. He loved visiting his grandma in Pelham so much because he got to play with his Lionel trains, his dogs and go to the Pelham Country Club. From his childhood experience, he fell in love with Pelham and moved here to start his own family. Living in Pelham was always his vacation; he did not need to go anywhere else.

He went to Pace University where he got his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1976 and eventually got his favorite job at Gehring Textiles where he worked close to 20 years. To Bill, accounting was not work because he loved it so much. When he was not working, he loved being with his wife, Denise, and his son, William H. Hargett, Jr. He loved going on little day trips with his family. His hobby was collecting Lionel trains, and over the years, he would take them out and play with them. Bill was also a member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association along with his son.

When Bill retired, he focused a lot of his time on fixing the family home. He worked on improving the entire house. He wanted his family to have a nice home to live in. Bill loved his family more than anything in the world and would have done anything for them. He always made sure that his son got the best education, and he got him anything he needed for school, as his son was growing up.

Bill’s love and wisdom will always be in the hearts of his family and friends.

Bill is survived by his wife, Denise; son and son’s wife, William Jr. and Juliana Hargett; sister and sister’s husband, Pamela and Larry Murphy; and the family cat, Sarah Susan Hargett.
A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Monday November 23, 2020 from 4PM-8PM at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Ave Pelham, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday November 24, 2020, at St. Catharine’s Church in Pelham. Cremation will follow and be private.
