Winter Storm Warning update: 16 to 22 inches of snow through Tuesday morning with blizzard conditions

The National Weather Service has issued the following Winter Storm Warning (click for all the NWS briefing slides with details on the storm). Below the NWS statement is an announcement from the Village of Pelham Manor on the weather and changes to garbage collection. The Pelham Union Free School District has called a snow day for Monday.

…WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 AM EST TUESDAY…

* WHAT…Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 16 to 22 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.

* WHERE…Portions of northeast New Jersey and southeast New York.

* WHEN…From 7 PM this evening to 6 AM EST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS…Travel will be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Blizzard like conditions possible late Monday morning and afternoon.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

From the Village of Pelham Manor:

As a result of the coming storm and expected forecast totals, Monday’s normal refuse/sanitation collection schedule will now occur on Tuesday, and Tuesday’s normal refuse/sanitation collection schedule will now occur on Wednesday.  Normal refuse/sanitation collection schedule will occur on Thursday and Friday, as of now.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for our area. 12 to 18 inches of snow is forecasted with near blizzard conditions anticipated Sunday night thru Tuesday. We strongly urge all Pelham Manor residents to prepare for the storm and once the storm begins, please stay off the roads if you can.

As soon as the storm begins, the Pelham Manor Department of Public Works will initiate its robust salting and plowing operations to keep road conditions as safe as possible. In preparation for our plowing operations, we urge residents to keep their cars off the streets in order to provide a clear path for plows to clear the snow. The sidewalk plow will also be deployed for this storm to assist residents in clearing snow from the sidewalks.
