PMHS girls varsity volleyball team remains undefeated in current season

PMHS girls varsity volleyball team celebrates victory over Eastchester.

With a 3-2 win in their fourth game of the season, Pelham Memorial High School’s girls varsity volleyball team remains undefeated this year.

Now holding two victories against longtime rival Eastchester High School, the players credit the team’s ability to work together as the key to their success this season.

Senior and offensive player Shannon Holland said, “We have a strong team this year, and whether it’s defensively or offensively we all work so well together.” Holland is one of the varsity team’s three captains.

“We also have a lot of juniors this year, so it’s good that we’re working together both in practice and in games,” said Natalia Cherner, also a PMHS senior and captain. “The team wants to play hard and do the best they can, which is a great quality to have with the young team. We’re excited to continue our hard work.”

Cherner had six kills and three aces during the team’s game on Monday against Westlake.

Junior Julia Wall is a setter for the team and recently set a new school record with 50 assists in Pelham’s five-set win against Eastchester on Tuesday.

“This year we have such a great team dynamic, and it makes playing the game so fun,” said Wall. “We all work so well together, and to me, that is the root of our accomplishments this season.”
