PMHS girls varsity volleyball team quarantined; playoff games cancelled
The remainder of the PMHS girls varsity volleyball season has been cancelled after members of the team were exposed to Covid-19.
Holding a 12-1 record before the abrupt end to their season, the quarantine comes as a blow to the players, who were feeling confident going into what would have been three playoff games in the last week of the season. The team was slated to have the number one seed in the Lower Southern Westchester Large Schools Bracket.
Seniors Natalia Cherner, Shannon Holland, Akaylah Ngsaye and Mila Panchich led the team to ten victories over teams including Yonkers, Westlake, Harrison, Mamaroneck, Rye and Eastchester before suffering a tough loss against Ardsley. Although Pelham’s streak was broken, the girls tallied two more victories against Dobbs Ferry and Tuckahoe before their season was ended.
The exposure came after their match against Tuckahoe, which they won 3-0. This makes the second Pelham team to become quarantined in this week alone.
