FRI, AUG. 24: Folk Rock Concert by Singer-Songwriter Jill Sobule
Katonah Village Library presents a live rock concert by Jill Sobule this Friday evening. The Denver-born singer-songwriter has more than seven albums, which comment on controversial topics such as the death penalty and reproduction, as well as personal subjects like anorexia, shoplifting and adolescence. Sobule has performed with Neil Young, Billy Bragg, Steve Earle, Cyndi Lauper, Tom Morello and Warren Zevon. Begins at 7 P.M.
SAT, AUG. 25: The Music of Tom Petty For Kids
This Saturday, The Rock and Roll Playhouse presents “The Music of Tom Petty for Kids,” a live performance that features The Mighty Fergusons, at Garcia’s at The Capitol Theatre. The family concert series uses songs by iconic rock musicians to offer young audiences an opportunity to rock out and enjoy games, movement and stories. Begins at 3 P.M.
SAT, AUG. 25: Live Pottery Demonstration and Lecture
Clay Art Center (CAC) will present a live demonstration by potter Ehren Tool during the annual Port Chester Day at Lyon Park. Guests will meet Tool, who is also a marine veteran, as he makes ceramic cups that are inspired by stories of war and conflict. Following the demonstration, Tool will give a slide lecture at CAC about why he turned to pottery as a way to discuss his experiences. Begins at 12 P.M.
SAT, AUG. 25: Moon Viewing Concert at Hammond Museum
Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll Garden will host its 52nd Annual Moon Viewing concert this Saturday. The Museum will be lit with paper lanterns for this ancient custom that celebrates Japanese traditions. The event will include a Japanese tea ceremony demonstration, traditional Japanese music and a bento dinner. Begins at 6:30 P.M. MON, AUG. 27 THROUGH SAT, SEPT. 29: #IRL Paintings Explores Adolescence
Beginning on Monday, Harrison Council for the Arts presents #IRL Paintings by Lori Slotkin at the Harrison Public Library. The exhibited works, on view through September 29, explore adolescence and the heavy burden of surviving in the age of technology. Slotkin was inspired by Instagram posts that demonstrate how the internet has affected young adults and their self-identity. Times vary.
