Play Adult Summer Reading BINGO and Win a Kindle!

Back by popular demand is our summer reading BINGO game for adults! Here’s how it works: Pick up a BINGO card at the front desk or download and print one from the Library’s website by clicking here. By marking off books you have read between July 1 and October 15 and completing a BINGO line, you will be eligible for a drawing for a new Kindle e-reader. 2nd Friday Bookclub on Zoom, Friday, July 9th, 10:30 am

Don’t Forget to Register Your Child for Summer Reading!

Our popular summer reading program gives kids the perfect opportunity to explore different books or ebooks and discover what they like to read for pleasure, all while helping them work on important literacy skills while out of school. Kids read books and earn points for gift certificates for cookies, pizza and ice cream! All prizes will be sourced from local businesses. Outdoor Story Time with Mr. Oz and Ms. Lisa! July 6, 7 and July 27 and 28, at 10:15 am

Join Mr. Oz or Ms. Lisa on Tuesday July 6 and Wednesay July 7, as well as Tuesday July 27 and Wednesday July 28 at 10:15 am outdoors on the library grounds for an interactive story time that enhances early literacy skills and features diverse children’s books in which all children can see themselves represented. Registration is recommended; in case of bad weather, the event will be moved to Zoom and registrants will be sent the link in advance. Bring a blanket to sit on and maintain social distancing.

Join us in person and outside for songs, stories, puppets and instruments with Nancy. Nancy Hershatter, M.Ed., is a music specialist who has been singing with children for more years than she can count. Bring a blanket for social distancing. Baby Yoga with Tizzy, Wednesday, July 14 and 21, 10:15 to 10:45 am

Join us in person and outside with your baby or toddler for a special program of yoga. Please bring blankets or mats for yoga practice and to create social distancing squares. To register, click here. In case of rain, registered participants will receive a Zoom link.

Stories and Songs with Chanell Smith, Tuesday, July 20, 10:15 to 10:45 am

Kid’s Crafts Studio In Person: Thermometer Magnets, Thursday July 29, 3:30 to 4:30 pm

Make thermometers that teach children about temperature and look pretty on your fridge. All ages. Space is limited; first come, first served. Please register by clicking here and in case of bad weather you will also get a link for Zoom. You can pick up supplies the week before the event from the library.

4-Day Renaissance Fair for Kids, Monday, August 2 – Thursday, August 5, 3:30 to 5 pm

Join us in person and outside for a special 4-day program for rising 4th through 6th graders about the Renaissance run by Pelhamite and high schooler Hudson Friedman. Day 1 will be an overview of the Renaissance and an art project. Day 2 features inventions including games such as Nine Men’s Morris (pictured at right.) Day three is poetry and music of the Renaissance and Day 4 will feature a read-through of an adapted Shakespeare play.
Please bring blankets to create social distancing squares. In case of rain, this program will change to Zoom. This registration will give you a zoom link in case of rain. To register, click here.

eResource of the Month: NUWAV Legal Documents

The Town of Pelham Public Library offers patrons the ability to create customized documents from home. The Nuwav Legal Documents portal, linked here, offers documents for estate planning for the State of New York including wills, power of attorney and medical directives; real estate law (landlord/tenant contracts and disputes, eviction notices); personal finance such as credit and identity theft; and family law including child care authorization and adoption. There are also forms for divorce and name changes as well as matters relating to U.S. Courts, such as bankruptcy, employment discrimination and public information requests. This service is available for free to Pelham patrons with a valid library card. Although Nuwav is not a law firm and cannot provide legal advice, these forms are valid when completed correctly and used appropriately.

Hours and Services

• The library building is open to patrons on a first-come, first-serve basis for browsing and checking out materials. Social distancing and masks are still required inside the building.
• We are also taking appointments for 45-minute sessions at our computer terminals and one hour study sessions at the reference table as well as the study tables in the children’s area. Please call the library at 914-738-1234 to make an appointment!
• We also continue to offer contactless, curbside pickup (you can place holds using the Westchester Library System app or through our online catalog.)
• You can also visit our digital library and select ebooks, audiobooks through Overdrive and Hoopla or stream movies through Kanopy.
• Our librarians are always available to answer reference questions, give book recommendations and provide technology help. Notary services are available by appointment.
