Three PMHS seniors commit to college athletic careers
Three PMHS seniors have already finished the college process now occupying their classmates: They’ve committed to sports at the college level.
Eileen Mazzaro, Kathryn Alexander and Tessa Loria have announced their official decisions to play Division I and Division III college athletics. Mazzaro is heading to Villanova University to play field hockey. Alexander is committed to Stanford University for women’s crew. And Loria is set to join the women’s lacrosse team at Colby College.
Division one schools like Stanford and Villanova can start recruiting in January of the athletes’ sophomore year, which is when Alexander and Mazzaro started hearing from coaches. Loria, a DIII commit, could not be recruited until July 15.
Nonetheless, Loria has been striving since tenth grade to secure an offer. “I had been working the recruiting process starting my sophomore year by attending tournaments with my club team and showcases of schools I was interested in,” she said.
Alexander said, “I’m excited to spend time with a group of people who are so devoted to the things they do.”
For Mazzaro, this is the next big step in her athletic career. “Club and varsity are fun and often thrilling, but nothing compares to a collegiate-level environment and level of competition,” she said.
