PMHS volleyball sweeps Brewster in first playoff game; Lakeland next on Monday

PMHS volleyball celebrates senior night

The PMHS volleyball team swept Brewster in straight sets Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals of the sectional championship.

We knew today was a really important game being that it was our first playoff game,” said senior Cami Cornacchio. “We had huge motivation to win and played really well together as a team.”

Pelham is the No. 3 seed in the Class A bracket with a 14-2 record.

After dropping two matches early in the season, the girls came on strong during league play, ending as undefeated champions of the league. Included in their 14-2 record were two big wins over rival Eastchester.

Last year, the Pelicans were the top seed in the tournament and the favorites to dominate but had to withdraw due to being exposed to Covid-19. That experience is motivating them to go far into the tournament.

Pelham will be at home against No. 11 seed Lakeland on Monday.
