Teachers to assign work during PMHS midterm week following cancellation of NYS Regents

An email was sent out to Pelham Memorial High School students and families on Friday stating that teachers will be posting assignments for students to complete during midterms week.

“Next week’s Midterm Exam Schedule will remain as published and students will report to PMHS only for their scheduled miterms,” the email said. ” In addition, Tuesday to Friday, January 25-28 will function as asynchronous virtual learning days for students when they are not at school for a scheduled midterm.” Assignments will be posted to Google Classroom for high school students to complete.

The change follows the cancellation of the New York State January Regents exams. “We have learned that for state aid purposes, the days on which the Regents exams were previously scheduled to be held will operate like any day during the school year without a Regents exam, despite our administration of local midterm exams,” the email said. This adjustment allows PMHS to comply with the NYS Education Department’s instructional day requirements.

The Examiner did not receive comment on why the NYS requirement changed this year.
