Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The Pelham Citizens Nominating Committee (Pelham CNC) is a non-political organization, the purpose of which is to recruit, interview and nominate highly qualified candidates for the Board of Education. The Pelham CNC is back after a two year hiatus due to the pandemic. Members are entirely independent of the Pelham School District and the Board of Education.

As the chair of the Pelham Citizens Nominating Committee, I am asking for help to identify and encourage excellent candidates to run for the Pelham Board of Education. This year three seats are up for election.

Candidates for the Board of Education must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old and have resided in the school district for at least one year.  The candidates need not have professional careers or prior board experience, or children currently enrolled in the Pelham schools. In addition to the requirements outlined by NY State, the Pelham CNC is looking for candidates who exhibit general interest in education and support the public school system, demonstrate an ability to work well with others, have knowledge of current local community issues as they affect the Pelham public education system, and showcase an ability and willingness to execute faithfully the duties of a member of the Board of Education.

Those interested in being nominated by the Pelham CNC for election to the Board of Education may email me directly at [email protected].  You may also ask any other member on the Pelham CNC committee listed below.

Individuals are not required to be nominated by the Pelham CNC to run for the Board of Education. Furthermore, a Pelham CNC nomination is not an endorsement. It is an assessment that the candidate possesses the qualifications set forth by the NYS School Boards Association along with the qualifications specific to Pelham as set forth by the Pelham CNC. This assessment is carried out after careful consideration. Candidates likewise benefit from the due diligence process as it provides each candidate the opportunity to kick start their personal research into the role and refer to the committee for guidance, until the point of interview.

Candidate applications are available on the Pelham District Schools homepage website, on our committee’s website:  www.pelhamcnc.com and through any Pelham CNC committee member. Applications must be completed and returned to me by 8:00PM Friday, March 4, 2022, via email

Our expected timeline is:

March 4, 2022 — 8:00PM deadline for turning in Pelham CNC application

Remainder of March – Pelham CNC interviews

April 18, 2022 — Deadline for filing nominating petitions with the school district clerk

May 17, 2022 –Budget Vote and Election Day
