PMHS ice hockey beats Queensbury 7-1 in semis to book trip to state championship final

PMHS ice hockey defeated Queensbury in the Division II state semifinal in a lopsided 7-1 victory that sends the Pelicans to the state championship final on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Pelham had one of their fastest starts of the year, getting a power play 14 seconds in and scoring off the draw. Twenty seconds later, senior captain Ben Rosenberg made it 2-0 with 16:19 to play in the first. Later in the period, star junior Louie Marcellino took the lead to 3-0 and followed that with an assist to sophomore Griff Evans a minute later to put the Pelicans up 4-0. After PMHS took a penalty, Rosenberg scored a shorthanded goal to give the Pelicans a 5-0 lead at the end of the first period.

The Pelicans dominated puck control throughout and beat down Queensbury for the 7-1 final. Also scoring were Angus Deeney and Zyde Karame.

PMHS will face off against the winner of Starpoint and Webster Thomas. Starpoint is the Section 6 champion and boasts a 19-5-1 record, while Webster Thomas is the Section 5 champion and comes in with a 17-3-2 record. Those two teams play their semifinal at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
