April 20, 2022  – The voting members of Progressive Women of Pelham have endorsed State Senator Alessandra Biaggi for New York’s Third Congressional District in the Democratic Primary election to be held on June 28th.

“Alessandra Biaggi has been a champion of progressive issues in Albany since her historic win over former State Senator Jeff Klein in 2018,” said Executive Board member Deborah Lowery Knapp. “We were an incubator for her run then as an unknown newcomer to politics, and are proud to support her now as she brings that same vision and fight to Washington, D.C.”

“Senator Biaggi’s leadership has helped pass a wave of progressive legislation, from tenant-centered housing reforms to some of the toughest climate change laws in the country, as well as critical bills addressing criminal justice reform, common sense gun safety, and nursing home regulations that protect seniors,” added long time PWP activist and Executive Board member Liz Massie. “We know she will bring her tireless energy and ability to get things done to the U.S. Congress, where her tenacity and advocacy are urgently needed.”

The newly-formed Congressional District NY-03 is composed mainly of Long Island communities but includes a slice of communities on the Western shore of Long Island Sound. PWP joined other grassroots activist groups in Westchester who came together as Sound Shore Votes to sponsor a candidate forum on March 10, 2022. Current Representative Tom Suozzi (D-NY), will not seek re-election.
