Editor’s note: This letter from Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Champ was provided by the Pelham Union Free School District. The Pelham Examiner publishes letters in the form received as a service to the community.
Dear Pelham Community,
It is with great sadness that I share the passing of former Pelham Schools Superintendent Dr. Charles T. Wilson. Dr. Wilson began his career in Pelham as a Social Studies Teacher in 1968. He subsequently served in a variety of capacities, including Guidance Counselor, Director of Guidance Services, Director of Pupil Personnel Services, Director of Instruction & Personnel, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction & Personnel, and ultimately Superintendent, a post he held from 1996 until his retirement in 2008. In 2013, he returned to serve briefly as interim superintendent.
Dr. Wilson cared deeply about the Pelham Public Schools and was committed to providing the best possible experience for our students. He leaves behind an incredible legacy and played a huge role in building our District into what it is today. A piece of that legacy is on display in our high school each year – the annual PMHS Olympics – which was the brainchild of Dr. Wilson in his pursuit to foster school spirit and bring the student body together.
I am forever grateful to Dr. Wilson for welcoming me into Pelham and for his career of contributions to the Pelham Public Schools. Please join me in expressing condolences to the entire Wilson family.

I have very fond memories of Dr Wilson. He was always there for the students of PMHS weather he was your teacher or not and any other position he filled during his career in Pelham. Never heard an unkind word from him and remembered all of us no matter how long you were out of school. May you Rest in Eternal Peace and keep watch over your beloved school district.

I had Mr. Wilson for Social Studies in 1968 as a 7th grader. I believe it was his first job out of college. He had hair then! So sorry to hear of his passing..
