Take a Virtual Tour of Stonewall National Historic Monument, June 4, 10 to 11 am

To kick off LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, join us for a virtual tour hosted by a guide from the Stonewall National Monument, part of the U.S. National Park Service. Bring your questions about the Stonewall Uprising, Stonewall Inn, and the beginning of the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement. This event will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. Juneteenth Virtual Presentation, Saturday June 11, 1 to 2 pm

Take a virtual tour of the African Burial Ground National Monument, part of the U.S. National Park Service. A ranger from the site will discuss Juneteenth, Pinkster, and show us the African Burial Ground National Monument in downtown NYC. This program will take place on Zoom, and you can register by clicking here.

Crafty Adults on Zoom, Monday, June 13, 7:30 to 8:30 pm

This month, we’ll be making miniature rainbow bunny cocktail umbrellas. At home, participants will need a glue stick and a fine black marker or pen. All other materials will be available for pickup at the Library after you register. This event will take place on Zoom. Please register by clicking here.

Adult Summer Reading Bingo Game Begins June 15th

Reading contests for children have been a staple of the Library’s summer reading program for years. But why let kids have all the fun? Adults and teens in 9th grade and up can play our Reading BINGO game for adults and be registered for a raffle to win a brand-new Kindle! You can get the instructions and download a bingo board by clicking here. Or stop by the library reference desk starting June 15 to pick up a form.

Plant-Powered Nutrition for Health on Zoom, Monday June 27, 7 to 8:30 pm

Learn about the health benefits of a plant-based diet from Sapana Shah, MD, MPH, and get inspired by a simple meal demo with Danielle Medina of Plant-Powered Metro New York. Co-sponsored by the Harrison and Tuckahoe Libraries. Registration required, to register click here.

Welcome New Board of Trustees Member Matt Kane

The Board of Trustees of the Town of Pelham Library is happy to announce the appointment of Matthew Kane to the Board. Kane is a marketing and advertising professional currently working for Digitas in New York. He previously worked at Penguin Group USA focused on their global digital business strategy for eBooks. He currently lives in Pelham Manor with his wife and two children and he will be chairing the communications committee. Adult Book Clubs Continue on Zoom!

The After-Dark Book Club will meet on Thursday, June 2 at 7:30 pm when we will discuss The Dearly Beloved by Cara Wall and on Thursday July 7 to discuss The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner. The 2nd-Friday Book Club meets on Friday, June 10 at 10:30 and we will be reading A Woman Is No Man by Etaf Rum and Friday July 8 to discuss The Tender Bar by J.R. Moehringer. In-Person Coding for Tweens, Friday June 3, 10, 17 and 24, 3:30 to 4:30 pm

Learn the basics of coding with a different activity each week. No previous coding experience required. For grades 3 to 6. This program is in-person at the library so please bring your own fully-charged laptop. Registration is required. To register, please email [email protected].

JLP Reads: Outdoor Story Time, Saturday, June 4, 10:15 to 10:45 am.

The Pelham Library is thrilled to be partnering with the Junior League of Pelham to bring a series of Saturday morning outdoor storytimes to the community through the JLP Reads program. The program is designed for children aged 4 to 6, but younger children are welcome. Volunteers from the Junior League will be bringing some of their favorite children’s books, as well as child-friendly music, to provide members of the community with a fun, engaging experience for their children. Kids’ Craft Studio: Rainbow Bracelets, Thursday, June 9, 3:30 to 4:30 pm

Kids’ Craft Studio is back! Come learn how to make colorful rainbow bracelets. For ages 4 and up. The program will be held outside, but in the event of inclement weather, we will move indoors.

Father’s Day Card Making, Monday, June 13, 3:30 to 4:30pm

Get ready for Father’s Day by making a great card for Dad! This craft is for kids 4 and up. This event will take place outside. In case of inclement weather, we will move indoors.

Summer Reading Kickoff with Animal Embassy, Wednesday, June 29, 3 to 4 pm

Dive into “oceans of possibility” (this year’s summer reading theme) as we kick off this popular reading incentive program for kids on June 29th! We will begin with an experiential wildlife program by Animal Embassy, and there will be other entertainment and goodies! You can register your child for summer reading online by clicking here (the program starts June 15), or we welcome you to come into the Library and we will sign them up for you! Participants in the program will also be invited to the end-of-summer reading ice cream party in August.

Outdoor Story Time Every Tuesday and Wednesday and now Fridays at 10:30 am

Join us for our popular storytime for infants and toddlers outside on our front lawn. Please note that the start time is now 10:30 am and we have added a Friday session. Story time is designed to enhance early literacy skills and features diverse children’s books in which all children can see themselves represented. In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled. Please call the library or check our website that morning.

The Library Will Be Closed on Monday June 20 in Observance of Juneteenth. We will reopen on Tuesday June 21 for our regular hours.
