A bill approving installation of a red-light camera at the intersection of Boston Post Road and Pelhamdale Avenue was passed by the New York State Legislature and awaits the signature of Gov. Kathy Hochul.

The legislation authorizes the Village of Pelham Manor “with approval” from the New York State Department of Transportation to put up a camera that would capture drivers who run red lights, according to a press release issued Wednesday by State Sen. Alessandra Biaggi.

The Pelham Manor Board of Trustees had requested state permission to install the camera.

“I am proud to see the interests of District 34 be prioritized by the state senate and assembly,” said Biaggi. “Affording this authorization to Pelham Manor will improve the safety of all who travel through or across the Pelhamdale Avenue/Boston Post Road intersection. Increased safety at this intersection means that students at the high school, customers at the shopping center, elderly residents and everyone else who passes through this intersection can feel safe while doing so.”

“I look forward to seeing this bill signed into law,” she said.
