Would love town pool, points out Scarsale complex is larger than one square block
To the editor:
I’d love a town pool. I grew up in Scarsdale, and as a kid I spent a lot of time at the pool, which was three and then four pools. An Olympic-sized pool, a diving pool, a kiddie pool and then they added an intermediate pool (for kids).
Keep in mind how much land you need for pools—it’s not just pools. It’s land for people to sit with towels. It’s locker rooms and showers. An entrance booth to check IDs. And parking. Plus maybe a snack bar with chairs and tables. The Scarsdale pool complex is massive. It’s way more than a square block.

I raised swimmers. I’d love a community pool. It would be a wonderful addition.
It’s NOT realistic here. Not enough land for one that generate revenue to even keep it afloat or generating any revenue. (Like how I did that?). Makes me sad to say it.
This is an area I happen to know a lityle about…
Pelham has enough to worry about. A pool is a VERY expensive endeavor Focus on getting what we have an what needs repaired the best is can be

Is this an actual serious proposal? The drawing I saw is an “artist’s rendering”, not a professionally drawn plan. Has any government entity or the Board of Education shown any interest in this idea? The Town doesn’t own Franklin Field, the school district does and I really doubt the district wants to give up one of the few fields we have. Even a tiny pool complex would take up the entire Franklin Field, which would be a massive loss to the community and the schools. I would love a pool too, but there is absolutely no place to put it. The Franklin Field idea is unrealistic.

People need to park when they go to a pool they carry different things there is enough traffic on 5th Avenue our Merchants are having enough difficulty. You need land and lots of it to have an adequate pool .Who do you turn away when it’s reached its capacity or on major holidays weekends there must be reservations which many clubs are doing now because of covid. People who moved here I knew there was no Town pool

My understanding is the concept was closer to Dobbs Ferry’s pool than Scarsdale.

Judging from a photo of I Googled, the Dobbs Ferry pool area looks to be at least 50% of the size of Franklin Field. What would that mean for the middle school students who use it for PE? The kids at Colonial who walk there to have lunch and recess? The Pelham Rec soccer games? And most importantly, graduations for all the schools take place on that same field.
I think a town pool is a great idea, but I don’t believe Franklin Field is the place for it.

It is actually about 1/3 of the size of the Franklin Field. From Google Maps: Dobbs Ferry pool complex is 200 by 160 feet, so a total of 32,000 sqft. Franklin field is 270 feet wide, 400 feet long on the longer side, and 350 feet long on the shorter side, which is a total of 101,250 sqft.

Thanks for the numbers, I was eyeballing. However, Gould Park pool is part of a much larger park with a ball field, basketball court and playground, not taking away a school field that is in constant use.
