Rotary seeks memories of club’s impact on people’s lives for 75th anniversary journal

Rotary Club of the Pelhams is asking community members to share their memories of how Rotary Club of the Pelhams made a difference in their lives or the Town for possible inclusion in a Commemorative Journal being prepared for the celebration of the club’s 75th Anniversary.

The Commemorative Journal will be distributed at Rotary’s wine and food Tastings XVI fundraiser on Oct. 16 with extra copies available at the Town Library and The Pelham Art Center.

“We would like to hear from Rotary Scholarship winners and/or their families in particular,” said Maggie Klein, editor of the Commemorative Journal. “Rotary also planted trees along Fifth Avenue and Wolfs Lane in memory of residents, honored PMHS graduates with plaques at the high school and spearheaded the campaign to build The Pelham Gazebo. The Interact Club at PMHS that is affiliated with Rotary placed a plaque about Mickey Schwerner at Mickey Schwerner Way/Fifth Avenue and has raised funds for school supplies sent to the Philippines and Sri Lanka.”

Rotary has also raised more than $300,000 at its Tastings fundraisers over the last 16 years for life-saving heart surgeries for children in foreign countries through the Gift of Life program and also for several foreign children brought to the United States and hosted by Pelham families while having the surgeries here.

Tastings XVI this year, with Blue Wine and Spirits as sponsor, will be held from 4-7pm at Pelham Country Club on Sunday, Oct. 16. Admission is $100 per person by cash, check or credit card at the door. In addition to the wine tastings, there will be restaurants offering their signature dishes for tasting, and the variety of foods will be more than enough for an evening meal. Music will be provided by members of the Phillip James Orchestra. Honorees will be all past presidents of the Rotary Club, all past Rotary Scholarship winners and Pelham host families of Gift of Life children.
