Treehouse Sweet Shop to serve ice cream and candy, replacing Double Rainbow on Wolfs Lane
Treehouse Sweet Shop will open at 205 Wolfs Lane in the fall offering ice cream, candy and truffles. It is co-owned by Rob and Christina Rubicco, who operate Anna and Jack’s Treehouse, a daycare and preschool that has three locations throughout the tristate area, including one in Pelham’s Sanborn Map Building.
Rob Rubicco worked as a management consultant until 2019, when he became increasingly involved in the preschool’s expanding locations. He was raised in Pelham, and his mother owned an ice cream store at 108 Fifth Avenue throughout his childhood. When the Double Rainbow location became available earlier this year, he said he became inspired to run his own ice cream spot in the downtown.
The store aims to open in September and will also offer a cereal bar and “shop local” section where goods from local Pelham bakeries will be offered.
“The Treehouse brand is so much bigger than either of us now, so we’re so excited to keep expanding to different avenues, and ice cream and sweets seemed like the perfect path for that,” said Rob Rubicco.
The couple plan on making the store a shop for all seasons, adding a hot chocolate station in the winter months and putting a party room with video games in the back of the store. In addition, about 15 seats will be available for customers inside the store, which Christina Rubicco described as “Instagrammable, and a place where you’re going to want to take pictures with friends.”
The owners are concerned with allergen safety and will have separate ice cream machines for customers with nut allergies. “We’re also going to be carrying vegan ice cream and almost all of our ice cream is gluten free,” said Christina Rubicco.
In addition to its storefront, the Treehouse Sweet Shop will provide ice cream at local events and plans to convert a school bus into an ice cream truck that can be brought to homes in Pelham for birthday parties. Children will be able to fill up small bags with candy and get a serving of ice cream from this mobile ice cream store.
