Village of Pelham Manor Manager John Pierpont to retire
Village Manager John Pierpont announced his retirement at the Pelham Manor Board of Trustees meeting on Monday. The board members decided to have him serve as interim village manager as they search for a replacement, whom Pierpont will then be able to train and give advice to before leaving.
“We are going to be hammering out some terms about his retirement,” Mayor Jennifer Monachino Lapey said. “He will enter into an arrangement where he will serve as the interim manager, and once we find a suitable successor and the positions are filled, the successor will take over his role.”
Pierpont also serves as village clerk, village treasurer, head of the department of public works and is usually appointed election clerk for the Manor’s village elections, which are held in March.
Later in the meeting, the board acknowledged Pelham Civics People of the Year Michael Volpe and Phillip Carfora.
“Phillip Carfora has done great things in the community, and he is a wonderful human being,” Monachino Lapey said. “Michael Volpe has done so much for this town,” including being the mayor of the Village of Pelham.
Resident Jennifer Mondido was sworn in as a Pelham Manor firefighter. Mondido has a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and a master’s from the University of Maryland. She served in the military for more than 22 years before retiring.
“I am very happy that there are dedicated members of the community and someone who is devoted to helping others like Jennifer Mondido,” Monachino Lapey said.
The next village board meeting will be held on Oct. 24 at 8:15 p.m.
