On Saturday October 1st, Pelham Girl Scouts hosted a membership drive for new families interested in joining Girl Scouts. This was the first event of its kind in Pelham. Eight troops of varying levels from Brownies to Cadettes collaborated to provide a variety of girl-led activities. These included rock painting, candy campfire building, friendship bracelets, lanyard stitches and featured a Bronze Award recipient’s project. Sponsored activities included Plaster Palace with Ms. Grabowski who led slime making and pottery painting, and Zumba with Mrs. Brittney Jensen who brought her colorful moves that kept everyone’s energy high.

Junior Troop #2617, led by Gabrielle Grimaldi, displayed brightly colored lanyard stitches, as well as an information table that covered facts about Girl Scouts Founder Juliette Gordon Low. Girls were able to get creative with decorating a flat Juliette while they learned about JGL’s story. Troop #1661, led by Jamie Porco Guglielmo, shared a craft table themed “What makes a Brownie smile”.

Senior Troop #1664, led by Kathy Ellis, brought the great outdoors to Pelham with Camp “Oh No!” Here they displayed the do’s and don’ts of camping. For example, dish soap in the river, candy wrappers littering the grass and open boxes of food that could attract animals were all big NOs.

Cadette Troop #1561, led by Stephanie Otero, made the chore of making a fire super fun and delicious with their candy fires. With pretzels as the logs and hot tamales as the fire, this table had by far one of the yummiest crafts.

Brownie Troop #2132, led by Stephanie Royce and Jade-Snow Joachim, brought their multi-colored beads and attracted many children. Their table was packed with all levels of Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes wanting to make a bracelet or a necklace for themselves or a friend.

Event organizer Liselle Sakhrani also leads Cadette Troop #02834 with co-leader Natalie Marrero. With the help of troop parent Angela Porter, children explored their artistic side, with vibrant paints and crazy designs. Troop Cadette Carolyn Porter manned the table and helped out the smaller Daisies. Along with this table, a Bronze Award project was also displayed. Julie Sakhrani’s “If I could change the world” Bronze Award project was a hit, and she was out of supplies by the end of the membership drive.

Troop #2960, led by Catherine Fagbeyiro, donated a fully stocked snack table. This snack table was a huge help considering this event was close to lunch time and everyone was very grateful for it. Junior Girl Scout Fiona Fagbeyiro oversaw the free prizes as girls tried their luck on the spinning wheel. Each girl spun the wheel and depending on which number it landed on, they would be asked a Girl Scout-themed question.

The entry ticket to this event was a donation of canned food of which we collected 140 cans and donated to Hope Soup Kitchen. Junior Girl Scout Laila Sakhrani distributed tickets for the free raffle baskets loaded with fun items for scouting. Winners were newest members to Girl Scouts, Brownies: Rhea and Mery.
