PMHS girls basketball wins home opener against Byram Hills
The PMHS girls basketball team started off the season with a 62-42 blowout victory against Byram Hills on Tuesday. This marked the start of what may be an eventful season full of high-scoring affairs.
The game was close throughout the first and second quarters, featuring runs and lead changes. Pelham led 29-26 at the first half. Braced by a tenacious defense, the girls were able to suffocate Byram’s offense, holding them to just five in the fourth quarter, three of which were foul shots. That and Pelham’s own scoring let the girls run away with the game.
Senior captain Katie Prisco led the Pelicans with 25 points, followed by her sister Allie with nine. Grace Dunhill added 10 more along with 11 rebounds for a double-double. The Pelicans were supported by sophomore Taylor Green with seven points and junior Rebecca Nicholas with five. Mia Orlando also played a tough game, hustling all 32 minutes and tallying four points.
The girls will look to keep their momentum rolling when they host Hastings Saturday at 12:30 pm.
