PMHS girls basketball finishes victorious in Pelham’s annual holiday tournament

The PMHS girls basketball team extended their undefeated season to seven straight games on Wednesday against Somers in Pelham’s annual holiday tournament championship game. Prior to this, the girls had a 71-29 victory against Poughkeepsie in the first round.

Though starting slow in the initial minutes of the game, the Pelicans began their tournament domination by going up 14 into the half. Through another impressive defensive stunt, the girls held the Somers Tuskers to just six points in the second half. Coupled with an imposing offense, the girls ran away with it. The final score read 50-16. This wasn’t their first tournament victory either, as they had won the Brewster tournament earlier in the season.

The Pelicans were led by junior Mia Orlando with 11 points, scoring nine of which from beyond the arc. Sophomore Taylor Green and junior Kaitlyn Howell followed with eight a piece. Tournament MVP Allie Prisco, and all-tournament team selection Rebecca Nicholas both had six. Senior Katie Prisco and senior Riley Teller each added five in the team’s formidable effort.

The girls will look to continue their undefeated season away at Lakeland on Jan. 5 at 4:30.
