PMHS girls basketball wins thriller over Rye to continue undefeated season
The PMHS girls basketball team extended its undefeated season to 13 straight wins after victories over Rye and Eastchester. The girls defeated Eastchester 55-31 Monday with 20-point contributions from both senior Katie Prisco and junior Mia Orlando. The Pelicans beat Rye Thursday in a 38-36 nailbiter. This marked their second league victory.
Rye dominated the beginning minutes of the game, showing an impressive offensive scheme and presenting the Pelicans with their first challenge this year. Rye led 21-15 at the half. After another low-scoring quarter, Pelham was able to rally and cut the Garnet’s advantage to just one point heading into the fourth quarter. The remainder of the game was back and forth until the final seconds. With five seconds left, Prisco drew a foul in the bonus that sent her to the freethrow line. Prisco knocked down both shots, putting the girls up by one point. In the remaining seconds, senior Grace Dunhill stole the ball, just about clinching the girl’s triumph. Orlando gained a foul with 0.4 seconds left in the game, making a freethrow to take the score to 38-36.
Prisco led the Pelicans with 14 points, followed by sophomore Taylor Green with 12. Dunhill added another six, accompanied by Orlando and senior Allie Prisco with three. The win made Pelham and Ketcham the only two undefeated teams left in the section.
The girls look to keep their perfect season alive on the road against Croton on Thursday at 6 p.m.
