PMHS hockey hands Scarsdale their eighth loss of the season
The Pelham varsity ice hockey team was able to hold down a strong win against Scarsdale Friday afternoon. Pelham will advance with a 10-5-1 record, and as the 7th overall seed in New York’s Division II ranking.
The Pelicans defeated Scarsdale 6-3, bouncing back from a let down loss against Clarkstown on Wednesday night. The boys were able to come out strong, with junior Will Crotty scoring off of a fantastic pass from junior Griffin Evans in the first minute of the game. The first period would end with both teams tied at 1-1, however Pelham would quickly respond in the second with three straight unanswered goals. In the third period, the Raider’s would fire back with two of their own. Pelham junior Santino Esposito put the game to bed with two minutes to go in the third.
The juniors led the way for the Pelicans, with Esposito and Crotty combining for a total of five goals. Senior Chris Franchini would score late in the 3rd, capitalizing on Scarsdale’s empty net.
With the end of the season quickly approaching, the reigning state champions hope to clutch their last game at home on Feb. 7 vs Mt. Pleasant.
