Rose Pla – Feb. 1

Rose Pla, a resident of Pelham Manor, New York for over 65 years, passed away peacefully on Feb. 1, 2023 at the age of 98 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born in Manhattan, NY on March 19, 1924 to Guiseppe and Desolina Marchini and had two brothers, Hector and Laurence.  Rose attended New York City public schools and graduated from New York University in 1948.  After attending NYU Law School, she worked on Wall Street and was married to Louis F. Pla on November 7, 1959 in New York City.

Rose had a deep Catholic faith and was lifelong parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Pelham Manor.  She was an active, energetic member of the Pelham community, working for many years as Town Clerk in Pelham Manor and Treasurer of the Town of Pelham.  She was also a member of the Pelham Senior Citizen Club, The Manor Club and a served as a volunteer at Accents on Antiques, into in her late eighties.

Rose had a lifelong interest in financial markets, was a talented cook, loved to play cards, enjoyed reading & music and was happiest when spending time with family and friends.  She had a terrific sense of humor, keen intellect, strong work ethic and was a great listener. Hers was the epitome of a life well lived.

Rose will be remembered as a devoted wife and loving mother & grandmother.  She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed cooking for them, laughing together at the beach, playing games and attending their school events.

Rose is survived by a son, Edward Pla (Laura), of Edgartown, MA and three loving grandchildren: Stefan (Brooklyn, NY), Madeleine (Manhattan, NY) and Nicole (Denver, CO).  She was predeceased by her husband, Louis and her brothers Hector and Laurence.

A celebration of Rose’s life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Ave., Pelham NY on Sunday, February 5th from 1-4pm. A remembrance gathering will take place at 3pm where her family and friends will share memories of Rose’s life. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help located in Pelham Manor on Monday, February 6th at 10am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
