With Pelham’s Ava Pursel and Maddy Lyons in the cast, Archbishop Stepinac High School’s national high school premiere of the musical “Jersey Boys” received seven Metro award nominations on Monday, including Pursel for outstanding performance in a featured role and outstanding performance of a duet.

“Jersey Boys” and its cast and crew were also nominated for outstanding production of a musical, outstanding performance in a leading male-identified role, outstanding performance in a cameo role, outstanding achievement in direction and outstanding vocal performance by a male-identifying performer.

The all-boys high school invites girls to audition for its shows, and Pursel and Lyons, both Pelham Memorial High School juniors, have performed in Stepinac productions for the past three years.

The Metros, also called the Metropolitan High School Theater Awards, returned after a three year hiatus to honor high school productions from the Lower Hudson Valley and Bergen County, with the awards ceremony set for June 12 at the Tarrytown Music Hall. The cast of “Jersey Boys” will perform at the event.

Pursel played Mary Delgado in the show. In the duet category, she was nominated with Calvin Lindo, in the role of Frankie Valli, for their performance of “My Eyes Adored You.”

The announcement of the nominations was streamed and published by the Westchester Rockland Journal News, which is the official media sponsor.
