Season over for Pelham varsity baseball after upset loss to John Jay-Cross River
Pelham varsity baseball’s season ended after a heartbreaking 8-5 defeat to John Jay-Cross River in the sectionals, as No. 10 John Jay upset Pelham, the No. 2 seed.
The Pelicans were down 6-0 as they came to bat in the fourth inning. Rallying, the boys cut John Jay’s lead to 6-5. It wasn’t enough after John Jay extended its lead to by two more runs.
Senior Captains Alex Esteverena, Luke Green, Timmy Meyer and Cooper Winburn were all awarded all-league honors. Junior Henry Kagan was also awarded all-league, with juniors Silvio Morovic and Jeremy Leak receiving all-league honorable mentions. Esteverena, Green and Meyer were also awarded all-section for their dominance and exemplary play. In addition, Esteverena was named to the Diamond 9 Team for his academic achievements and community service.
The team graduates eight seniors, including Meyer, Green, Winburn, Esteverena, Ayden Bent, Dylan Agosta, Chris Romano and Landon Popovic. These outstanding seniors served as role models for the underclassman and embodied what it means to have Pelican pride.
