The Department of Public Works has a lot going on lately! We have updates on the following initiatives: Stormwater Program, Paving & Related Infrastructure, and Utility Work.

Stormwater Program

Mark your calendars for the next three months, the street sweeper is scheduled to be in the Village of Pelham Manor the second Monday and Tuesday of the month (weather permitting) for the summer. We will touch base on scheduling come the Fall. Residents are encouraged to make an effort to refrain from parking on the streets on these days. Street sweeping is just one of the stormwater practices we conduct. In addition to in-house catch basin cleaning before a known weather event, another action we commit to is a catch basin deep clean. Over the next several weeks, an industrial vacuum truck will be making its way around the Village.

This past weekend, students from the Pelham Public School District provided a stormwater outreach initiative. Sophia Riviello, Eleanor Condon, and Keilana McLean painted a stencil on various storm drains that reads “No Dumping Drains to Waterway” with a fish image (pictures below). Their efforts had a wide reach throughout the Village as the project spanned over two days. When community members pass by the stenciled storm drains, they will be reminded that where stormwater flows, everything goes. Thank you for supporting our stormwater program!

Paving & Related Infrastructure

In preparation for Village paving efforts this summer, work will continue next week in the Townsend Avenue, Jackson Avenue, and Prospective Avenue area. The contractors will first tend to ramps and structures before they begin milling and subsequently paving. A more precise and detailed paving schedule will be provided in the coming weeks. Sidewalk replacement efforts concluded for the season this week. We tend to our sidewalks year-round and are proud to provide such a walkable community.

Utility Work

In preparation for NYS Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) planning to pave Boston Post Road, ConEdison has been conducting utility work on Boston Post Road. The work near residential areas will continue to take place during the hours of 8:30am-3:30pm. The work near Edgewood and Highland is expected to be finishing up by the end of next week. After this, the work needs to continue and will move to the Pelhamdale Avenue and Boston Post Road intersection. There will continue to be slight traffic disruption so please provide yourself with extra travel time to pass through this area. The Pelham Manor Police Department is a critical component to this work and provides excellent support throughout this effort. We encourage you to give them a wave as you pass through!

During the overnight hours, Con Edison is also doing work in the business district west of the Hutchinson River Parkway. While less intrusive to our daily transportation, residents will still notice plates in the road and are encouraged to navigate the area carefully.

The NYSDOT paving project is currently working through the bidding process. The NYSDOT project ID number is 881409, which residents can use to track project status online.
