Barbara Green — Sept. 10

Barbara Ann Green (Aitken), whose favorite name to be called was “Grandma,” departed her beloved family on September 10, 2023. Barbara who resided most of her life in Pelham, NY. and Danbury, CT. passed away at the age of 79 years old. Barbara was born on April 22, 1944, in Mount Vernon, NY to her mother, Daisy Aitken (Bromm), and her father, Joseph Aitken. She was one of five children. Barbara was raised in Mount Vernon, NY where she graduated from A.B. Davis High School. It was in Mount Vernon where she would meet her future husband, Thomas Green.

In 1964, Barbara and Tom wed and they spent 58 years happily married, building a beautiful life together. Tom and Barbara raised their four children in Pelham. Barbara thrived as a stay-at-home mother, raising her four children and their many family pets. In youth, Barbara and Tom were avid runners. They enjoyed their time together and participated in countless races over the years. But above all, she devoted her life to her children. As a mother, she was patient, loving, and kind. Her family meant everything to her and she found the most joy in taking care of those she loved. She was the foundation of her family through and through. Barbara was a constant supporter of her children in their sports and youthful endeavors, and even still as adults when they were raising their own families.

Barbara and Tom moved to Texas in 1995 following his retirement as a police officer. They lived there for nearly 5 years before moving back East to Connecticut to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In her later years, Barbara spent much of her time with her twelve grandkids. They were her whole world, and she was so proud to watch each of them grow into her wonderful legacy. She never missed a special date, sending a birthday card, or picking out the perfect holiday gift. Barbara was a dedicated wife, a present and selfless mother, and a doting grandmother. She will be deeply missed and remembered fondly by her family and friends.

Barbara is survived by her children, Casey Green and his wife Kristen, Kathy Green, Danny Green and his wife Karen, Nicole Steeger, and her husband Mike. She will be greatly missed and cherished forever by her 12 grandchildren; Haley, Shane, Luke, Brady, Hanna, Taylor, Jake, Carly, Heather, Brooke, Colton, and Everett. She is also survived by her sister, Jessie D’Onofrio, and her two brothers, Joseph Aitken and Thomas Aitken.  Barbara is predeceased by her husband, Tom, her sister Joyce, and both her parents.

A Celebration of Barbara’s life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham New York on Friday, September 22, 2023, between the hours of 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
