Antoinette Tiso, a loving and devoted woman who brought joy and warmth to all those who knew her, passed away on September 21, 2023, in Bronxville, New York. Born Antoinette Galdo on May 30, 1931, in Mount Vernon, New York, she was the daughter of Alfonso and Antoinette Galdo and an exceptional woman who touched the lives of many.
Antoinette was raised Catholic and attended Sacred Heart Elementary School before graduating from Edison High School. Antoinette’s life was one filled with love, resilience, and a deep commitment to family and her Faith. She met the love of her life, Henry Tiso, at the Sugar Bowl Diner in Mount Vernon and in 1953 the two married. Their marriage produced two beautiful children; Alfred and Christine. After raising her children with unwavering dedication, she embarked on a new chapter as a clerk for the United States Postal Service. Her unfaltering work ethic and gentle nature endeared her to colleagues and customers alike.
Antoinette’s magnetic personality drew people near. With her jolly demeanor and selfless nature, she had an innate ability to make everyone around her feel loved and cherished. Family was at the core of her being, and there was nothing that brought more joy to Antoinette than spending time with her loved ones.
Antoinette was a devout Catholic and a parishioner at St. Catharine’s church in Pelham, NY for 58 years. She instilled a strong Catholic faith in her children. They are forever grateful for the example she set and for the faith that she taught them.
There was something truly magical about Antoinette’s home during the holidays, especially at Christmas. Known for her delicious eggplant parmigiana and festive decorations that adorned every corner of the house, she lovingly created an atmosphere of warmth and joy that became known as “Nanna’s fun house” by her adoring grandson Joseph. In addition to creating joyful memories at home, Antoinette shared a love for baseball with her son Alfred which led them to become avid fans of the New York Yankees. They would often be found watching or listening to games together, cheering on their favorite team side by side.
Antoinette’s love for her family knew no bounds. She leaves behind her beloved son, Alfred Tiso, and daughter, Christine Veteri. Antoinette’s ever-giving nature extended to her son-in-law, Joe Veteri, who held a special place in her heart. Her grandson Joseph Henry Veteri brought immeasurable joy and pride to her life and will forever carry her memory in his heart. Antoinette leaves behind a brother, Raymond Galdo, as she joins her seven other beloved siblings in heaven.
Antoinette Tiso led a life filled with compassion, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to those she cherished. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May we honor her memory by embracing the love and selflessness she embodied, forever carrying her bright spirit within our hearts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Catharine’s Church, located at 25 Second Avenue, Pelham, NY, on Wednesday, September 27th at 10:00 AM.
