Memorial service at Christ Church for four U.S. Army chaplains who sacrificed their lives for others during sinking of Dorchester

Editor’s note: This press release was provided by the American Legion Pelham Post 50. The Pelham Examiner publishes press releases in the form received as a service to the community.

The American Legion, Pelham Post 50 will conduct a Memorial Service, this Sunday, February 4, 2024, to honor those four brave and noble U. S. Army Chaplains of various faiths, who selflessly sacrificed their lives for their fellow soldiers on February 3, 1943, during the sinking of the Army transport ship Dorchester in the North Atlantic Ocean.

The service will be conducted this year at 10:00 AM, at the Episcopal Church of Christ the Redeemer, 1415 Pelhamdale Avenue, Corner of Shore Road, Pelham Manor, NY 10803.  The religious service will be held under the leadership of the Church Rector, Reverend Matthew H. Mead, with a member of Pelham Post 50 relaying the story of the Four Chaplains.  This service will enable those in attendance to honor and pray for these four men and for all past and present members of our armed forces who both serve today and have served and sacrificed over many years for Our Great Nation, so that we can enjoy the liberty and freedoms, including religious freedom, available to each of us.

Your attendance at this service would be warmly appreciated.
