Kathryn Dawson – March 7

Kathryn “Kathy” Dawson, a beloved resident of Mount Vernon, New York, passed away peacefully on March 7th, 2024, at the age of 90. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Kathy was the cherished daughter of Harry and Katherine Neuffer. Growing up as an only child in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, Kathy received her education at Fontbonne Hall Academy before pursuing higher studies at Fordham University. Kathy embarked on a career as a secretary with the American Tobacco Company.

In the summer retreat of Broad Channel, Queens, Kathy’s life took a beautiful turn when she met her soulmate, Kenneth Dawson. Their union in marriage on August 28th, 1955, at St. Bernadette’s Church in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, marked the beginning of a love story that lasted 54 years. Settling in Oceanside, Long Island, the couple was blessed with the arrival of their son, Robert Dawson, in 1957.

Kathy’s interests were as diverse as her passions were profound. She found joy in gardening, decorating, and delving into mystery novels. A fashion enthusiast with an eye for elegance, Kathy was also an avid traveler, with Bermuda holding a special place in her heart. Beyond her personal pursuits, Kathy dedicated her time to serving her community as vice president of a garden club, a volunteer with the Cub Scouts, and a devoted helper in local hospitals.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Kathy will forever remember her vivacity, warmth, and genuine interest in others. A natural conversationalist with a highly developed sense of sarcasm, and gracious hostess, Kathy touched the lives of countless individuals with her kindness and infectious spirit.

Kathy leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her devoted son, Robert K. Dawson, and his wife, Beth Gilroy, along with her adored granddaughters, Kimberly and Emma Dawson. She will also be deeply missed by her nieces, a nephew, and the multitude of friends whose lives she enriched.

A celebration of Kathy’s remarkable life will be held at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York, on Wednesday, March 13th, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 575 Fowler Avenue, Pelham Manor, New York, on Thursday, March 14th, at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, New Jersey.
