Martin Maloney Jr. – March 12

Martin James Maloney Jr., a longtime resident of Manhattan, New York, and formerly of Greenwich, CT, passed away on March 12, 2024, at the age of 79. Born in Manhattan to Martin and Mary Maloney, Martin was the middle child of three siblings. He spent his formative years in Manhattan and attended La Salle Academy High School. After graduating, Martin pursued his passion for marketing at St. John’s University, all while indulging in his love for the trombone and Jazz music.

Martin’s professional journey led him into the dynamic world of advertising. Starting from the ground up, he ascended to become the Vice President of John Blair and Company by the age of 30. Eventually, Martin, with his wife Julie, founded their own advertising firm, Broadford and Maloney Incorporated, based in Greenwich, Connecticut.

At 27, Martin found his lifelong partner in Julie Petty. Together, they shared forty-seven years of marriage and built a loving family. Their union was celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Manhattan on May 22nd, 1976. Establishing their home in Greenwich in 1979, Martin and Julie raised their three daughters amidst their thriving careers. He actively participated in the community, notably at St. Michael the Archangel Parish and as a dedicated member of Legatus, a values-based CEO organization. Martin’s commitment extended to serving two terms on the international board of governors for Legatus and leading as president of its Connecticut chapter. Additionally, he contributed to academia as a board member and professor at New York University’s Masters Programs for Strategic Communications, Marketing, and Media.

Beyond his professional achievements, Martin cherished family time and shared adventures with his loved ones, from European excursions to summers in Nantucket. He will be fondly remembered for his intellect, kindness, creativity, and unwavering support for his family’s endeavors. Martin possessed a unique talent for storytelling, infusing even the simplest moments with depth and meaning.

Martin is survived by his beloved wife Julie, his devoted children Erin (Mark) Shea, Shannon (Tim) Moynihan, and Caitlin (Brian) Sette, as well as his cherished seven grandchildren, brother Daniel (Carol) Maloney, and sister Patricia Costello. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Martin is preceded in death by his parents Martin and Mary Maloney and his brother-in-law Jack Costello.
