The new business Honey Notes Affirmation & Candle Bar recently arrived in downtown Pelham at 1 Wolfs Lane. The store in suite 310 offers a variety of products, including candles, tote bags and poetry books.
Shynae Davis, the founder of the business, previously sold her products at town events before setting up the retail location in the Village of Pelham.
“I’ve done Winter Wonderland for two years in a row, and I saw the sign in front of the [building] that said availability,” she said.
Davis has been writing poetry since she was 12 years old. “Before the pandemic, I had already built the business around poetry, mugs and tote bags.” she said. “I always had dreams of writing a poetry book. My first poetry book was a compilation of poems I wrote in high school.”
It is titled “Butterflies & Teary Eyes” and is her favorite.
“A lot of my readers connected and empathized with my writing,” Davis said. “I am in love with creative titles and names. I love ‘Butterflies & Teary Eyes’ because you get butterflies and teary eyes from different emotions, like being overwhelmed, overjoyed or other mixed feelings. Poetry is also a very good vehicle to connect with people, and people can interpret poems however they want.”
Davis has another book of poems titled “The Illusions of Perfection.”
Candles eventually became a part of Davis’s business two years after publishing her first book. She will be hosting a candle making workshop “Sip & Pour” on Sept. 28 at her Pelham location.
“My candle making event is a social gathering for people to make candles and listen to music,” Davis said. “We also have people make affirmation cards while we wait for the candles to cool down.”
According to Davis’s online store, the candles are designed to fill the room with an aromatic experience. The candles use healing crystals such as obsidian and rose quarts.
Davis said her number one goal currently is to run Honey Notes full time and be profitable. “I would love to work with local businesses to get my candles and affirmation cards out there.”
