Kiara Martinez, owner of Sweets Bv Ki, celebrated the grand opening of her new bakery at 227 Fifth Avenue on Saturday. The shop was filled with treats, including tres leches, pumpkin cheesecake, flan and many others in just right for the fall season.
Pelham families and residents stopped in to check out the new shop.
“I feel like this is always what I dreamt of, and it is just surreal,” Martinez said. “I couldn’t sleep last night thinking about it.”
The store was decorated with balloons in one corner and an aesthetic photo wall for customers to use.
Martinez’s friends and family was there to support her. “It’s a full circle moment and things feel great,” said Lareck Gayle, Martinez’s boyfriend, “to see her dreams come true from being a home baker to having an official shop in the Village of Pelham is very nice.”
As customers visited to try the new sweet shop, Martinez’s sisters, Jayda Rodriguez and Lori Gayle, helped her bake churros and other desserts. “I am really excited for my sister and wish her all the success in the world. She has worked extremely hard to get to where she is today, and she deserves all the blessings that will come out of this,” said Jayda Rodriguez.
“It has been very emotional, but I am also very happy for her,” Martinez’s mother Patricia. “It has been her dream since she was eight, so to see her fulfill her dream is what makes my heart whole. I am very excited for her, and I hope this is just the beginning for her.”
