As the days are heating up in Pelham, you may find yourself hungry for a delicious cold treat. There are a lot of great ice cream stores in the Pelhams and Southern Westchester area, but when it comes to cost, convenience, service, and overall taste, it is hard to know which are the best; so I am here to provide you with the ultimate guide to ice cream in or near Pelham.
Flour Power
Flour Power is a bakery and ice cream store located in the Four Corners area in Pelham Manor. The store offers 12 flavors of ice cream ranging from classics such as birthday cake, to unique options including choco taco.
Convenience: 5/5 stars
Flour Power’s location in the Four Corners area makes it the perfect place to stop for a treat after shopping at the plaza’s many stores, and the closest option for many Pelham residents.
Service: 5/5 stars
During my visit, the staff at Flour Power was friendly and helpful, and the service was very quick.
Cost: 4/5 stars
Ice cream at Flour Power is sold for $4.00 (kiddie), $5.25 (small), $6.25 (medium), and $7.25 (large), with an extra charge for cones. Compared to other ice cream stores located near or in Pelham, Flour Power offers the best value per size, with the most amount of sizing options, and ice cream in each serving.
Product: 4/5 stars
Flour Power’s ice cream is super soft and creamy, as well as being very well mixed, with a good balance between cream and mixed-in flavorings.
Penny Lick Ice Cream Co.Â
Penny Lick has multiple locations throughout Westchester County, and is best known for its seasonally rotating menu of house-made ice cream flavors.
Convenience: 3/5 stars
Penny Lick has locations in Mamaroneck and Hastings on the Hudson. While the Mamaroneck location is only a fifteen minute drive from Pelham, it is rather out of the way unless you are already heading in that direction.
Service: 3/5 stars
While the staff was friendly and service was quick, the staff did not seem to know the store very well. They often mixed up types of cones, and needed help figuring out where each flavor was in the display case.
Cost: 3/5 stars
While not being too expensive, the servings Penny Lick sold were relatively small. Their ice cream costs $5.60 (kiddie), $6.60 (medium), and $7.55 (large).
Product: 5/5 stars
This ice cream store offers amazing homemade flavors, with a great variety of interesting choices. Their flavors were fun, and each one had a great, high quality taste.Â
Cookies N’ CreamÂ
Cookies N’Cream is an ice cream and cookie shop with locations spreading throughout New York. They have a large menu featuring fun, unique cookies and matching ice cream flavors that can be made into cookie ice cream dishes and milkshakes.
Convenience: 3/5 stars
While not being located in Pelham, Cookies N’ Cream has Westchester locations in Bronxiville and Yonkers, as well as other stores throughout New York, with more being set to open soon.
Service: 3/5 stars
The service at Cookies N’Cream was decently quick, but multiple members of my party had other flavors mixed into their ice cream. This could have been caused by the scoop not being properly cleaned, or the containers being used for different flavors.
Cost: 5/5 starsÂ
The ice cream at Cookies N’Cream is delicious and well sized, and costs $4.00 (small), $5.75 (medium), $7.00 (large).
Product: 5/5 stars
Cookies N’ Cream sources their ice cream through Longford’s, a Westchester born ice cream company. They have some of the most unique flavors I have heard of, such as chocolate caramel crunch and grand slam, and the ones I tried were absolutely delicious.
Pearl Dynastea
Pearl Dynastea is an honorable mention on this list, because while it is not a traditional ice cream shop, it has a small menu of creamy milk shakes. It is a new Taiwanese tea shop in Pelham, with a variety of drinks perfect for cooling off on a hot summer day.
Convenience: 5/5 stars
Pearl Dynastea is located downtown in the village on Wolf’s lane, making it a great place to stop after playing in the park or going shopping.
Service: 5/5 stars
At Pearl Dynastea, the service is very quick, and the staff is kind and manages the store well.
Cost: 5/5 stars
A milkshake costs $6.25 (small) and $7 (large) at Pearl Dynastea, with the “small” being generously sized.Â
Product: 4/5 stars
Their milkshakes are light and creamy, yet still sweet. The taste is not overpowering, and you can drink it without feeling stuffed. It also comes with whipped cream on top for no extra charge and is available in four different flavors.Â
Overall, if you are looking for delicious, high quality ice cream in the Pelhams, Flour Power is definitely the way to go. However, if you want to experiment with a new flavor of ice cream, and perhaps a matching baked good, Cookies N’ Cream would be my recommendation. For the best quality ice cream, look no further than Penny Lick Ice Cream Co.; but if you are more of a milkshake person, be sure to check out Pearl Dynastea.
