Community members gathered at the Pelham Art Center’s third annual Art Happening event on the afternoon of July 12, which was organized by the Teen Artists Council.
Art Happening celebrates the end of the teen program each year, according to Kass Gray, the teen program coordinator. Each year, the teens choose what type of event they want to host. Last year, they chose to do an art market, and this year, they decided to create a mural.
“It’s open to the public,” said Gray on the event. “And we have lots of art and crafts workshops that anybody can drop by to do.”
Members of the Pelham community joined the teens for crafts throughout the afternoon such as bracelet making, glitter tattoos, and refreshments. “I feel like we’ve gone very ‘summer camp’ for the activities this year,” said Gray.
Sienna Perez, a student from The Ursuline School and member of the teen council, said that their mural was inspired by the greenery and flowers of the surrounding garden area in the Art Center’s courtyard. “We wanted something that, when people walk past, it lifts their spirits and gets them in the summer mood,” said Perez on the design.
The completed mural will be on display at the Pelham Art Center.
