Pelham School Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Champ announced this morning that she has selected Jennifer Mangone of the Somers Middle School to become the next principal of Siwanoy Elementary School. In a message to the district community this morning, Champ wrote that she will recommend Mangone for the position at tonight’s meeting of the Pelham Board of Education.
“Throughout the various stages of the hiring process, Mrs. Mangone impressed, showcasing the skills and experience desired by our community as reflected in the leadership profile,” wrote Champ.
Siwanoy has not had a full-time principal since last March, when Farid Johnson went on a leave of absence and subsequently resigned. Susan Kramer-Gilbert has been serving as interim principal since then.
Mrs. Mangone comes to the new leadership position with over a decade of career background dedicated to education; before working as the principal of Somers Middle School, she was the assistant principal of Somers Middle School and Babylon Junior Senior High School, having previously taught social studies there.
“From my first visit, I felt warmth, joy, and deep sense of care that make Siwanoy such a special place for children to learn and grow,” Mangone said. “I am so excited to partner with the Pelham community to support student-centered learning that builds strong academic foundations while also nurturing the social and emotional well-being of every child.”
