The Pelham Art Center invites all to the next Folk Art Event in its series: Argentinian Folk Art and Music on Sunday, June 28th from 1-3pm onsite at the Pelham Art Center. From 1:15-2:15 PM, this special afternoon will feature a beautiful solo guitar performance by the esteemed Argentinian composer Carlos Pavan, who combines folklore rhythms with jazz and classical concepts. The performance will be followed by indigenous arts with contemporary materials for all to participate in, representing Argentine culture that is deeply rooted in the wondrous landscape of this South American country. 

Carlos Pavan’s traditional style guitar pieces and themes embody Argentine folk music that typically resounds through the Argentine village where he grew up. However, Pavan’s music style combines these rhythms of folklore with jazz and classical concepts, offering his very own unique elements intended to dazzle the listener. 

Indigenous art in Argentina is not just aesthetic expression, but a form of communication for communities deeply rooted in the plains, tundras, caves, mountains and rivers of this beautiful land. After the music performance, the Art Center presents an opportunity to get a taste of Indigenous Argentine art, which conveys the wisdom, beliefs, and stories of generations, connecting the past with the present. All are welcome to try their hand at simple but fun art activities at this community-oriented celebration of culture and the arts.
