Pelham Manor police blotter: April 7-13

Sunday, April 7

7:43 a.m. – Received a call from a resident, who stated that her dog had run out of Shore Park and was now missing. The dog was described as a brown and white foxhound last seen running across Shore Road toward Shoreview Circle. Officers were dispatched, and report a canvass of the area returned negative results.

9:53 a.m. – Received a call from a resident, in regards to damage that had been done to their vehicle. Upon officer arrival, officers spoke to the complainant, who stated that they had parked their vehicle in their driveway at approximately 10:30 p.m. the previous night in good condition, and discovered it at approximately 9:30 a.m. this morning with damage to the rear windshield. There was a rock located in the trunk that appeared to have been thrown through the window in order to damage it. The complainant stated they didn’t hear or observe anything suspicious throughout the night. They further stated that nothing of value had been inside the vehicle overnight and nothing appeared to have been taken. Photos were taken of the vehicle and damage. The rock was secured as evidence. An owner’s deposition and supporting deposition were secured.

10:02 a.m. – Received a call in regards to an unwanted party at Manor Market at 4775 Boston Post Road. The person reporting stated that there was a white man in the rear parking area going through the dumpster and making a mess. The man was described as white, overweight with curly hair, wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Officers were dispatched, and report the party was gone on arrival. A canvass of the area returned negative results.

2:03 p.m. – Received a call from a security company operator reporting an activated alarm at a Hillcrest Drive residence. Officers were dispatched, and report the person interviewed on the premises was a realtor showing the home.

2:39 p.m. – Received a call from the manager of CVS Pharmacy at 4760 Boston Post Road, requesting police assistance in regards to a person in front of the store soliciting customers. Party was described as a black male wearing a black jacket and jeans, with a plastic tote. Officers were dispatched, and report the party was gone on arrival. A canvass of the area returned negative results.

3:20 p.m. – Received a call from the manager of CVS Pharmacy, requesting police assistance in regards to a person soliciting customers. The manager stated it was the same party from earlier. Officers were dispatched, and report the party was gone on arrival. A canvass of the area returned negative results.

3:33 p.m. – An officer reported that while investigating a report of soliciting (see the incident at 3:20 p.m.) he was informed of a suspicious person inside the store who may have been attempting larceny and may also have been involved with previous incidents. Officers report the suspicious party left the store without incident. All in order.

4:10 p.m. – Received a call from a resident stating that she observed a pile of boxes containing merchandise which appeared to have been discarded in a wooded area near her residence on Monroe Street. The boxes were scattered in the wooded area between Monroe Street and the I-95 dividing wall. Some of the packages were opened with the merchandise scattered around. Other packages were sealed shut. All of the packages were addressed to Pelham and Mount Vernon residences. The packages and merchandise were secured and transported to Pelham Manor Police Headquarters.

Monday, April 8

4:22 a.m. – County dispatch reported that the Pelham Manor Fire Department would be responding to a Witherbee Avenue residence for a residential fire alarm. Officers were dispatched, and report the Fire Department stated the alarm was accidental.

6:42 p.m. – Received a 911 call from a woman reporting that she was involved in a motor vehicle accident with no injuries on Boston Post Road. Officers were dispatched, and an information exchange was completed.

8:47 p.m. – An officer reported a vehicle lockout in the parking lot of BJ’s Wholesale Club at 820 Pelham Parkway. Another officer was dispatched, and officers report that entry was gained into the vehicle.

Tuesday, April 9

2:00 a.m. – Received a call from the owner of Gourmet Express at 924 West Street, stating that there was a suspicious party at the location. Officers were dispatched, and interviewed the party. Party stated that he was collecting bottles, and he was advised not to return to the location after business hours and was sent on his way.

7:00 a.m. – Received a call from a resident of Monterey Avenue reporting an activated burglar alarm at their residence. Officers were dispatched, and report the alarm was accidentally set off by a family member who was visiting.

10:56 a.m. – An employee of the Pelham Manor Department of Public Works walked into the police station to report an incident involving damage to a civilian vehicle. He stated that on April 9, at approximately 7:30 a.m., he was carrying several trash bags from the driveway of a residence when he accidentally scratched the passenger side of a vehicle which was parked in the driveway. He stated that he did not realize he damaged the vehicle. On this date, at approximately 10:00 a.m., he stated he was informed by the homeowner about the damage to her vehicle, so he demonstrated how he had removed the garbage the day prior. He stated that while demonstrating, he accidentally scratched the vehicle again. An officer responded to the residence and spoke with the homeowner, who corroborated the events. Supporting depositions were completed by both parties, and owner’s deposition was completed by the homeowner, and photos of the vehicle’s damage were taken.

12:27 p.m. – Received a 911 call, caller stated she dialed 911 by accident. Officers were dispatched to her location on Shore Road, and confirmed it was accidental.

9:32 p.m. – Received a phone call from CVS Pharmacy at 4760 Boston Post Road, reporting a larceny in progress. Caller reports the subjects fled in a dark-colored SUV bearing New York license plates, and turned right onto Pelhamdale Avenue. Officers were dispatched, and stopped the vehicle in front of Target on Sandford Boulevard in Mount Vernon. Items that were recovered include a counterfeit $100 bill, four packs of Milo Lemonade, two packs of LifeStyles Skyn condoms, five bottles of MegaRed supplements, two bottles of CVS brand Fish Krill oil, and five bars of deodorant.

Wednesday, April 10

8:02 a.m. – Received a call from a resident, reporting that she found a loose dog near her residence at Stellar Avenue. Officers were dispatched, and returned to the police station with the dog. Later received a call from the dog’s owner, stating that he was coming to pick up the dog. The owner responded to the police station and retrieved the dog. A verbal warning was issued to the owner, and the property book was signed.

11:16 a.m. – Received a call from an employee of Dave & Buster’s at 881 Pelham Parkway, reporting that a group of four youths were attempting to harm another youth. Officers were dispatched an upon arrival, observed four youths; two males and two females walking Southbound in the parking lot. Said youths began acting apparently suspicious and and officer attempted to make contact, at which time they took off running and entered Fairway Market. An officer attempted to locate the youths inside Fairway Market, and then observed them run out the front entrance and proceed Eastbound towards Pelham Parkway. Officers canvassed the area and observed the youths at a distance, by The Vitamin Shoppe, but was unable to locate them. Officers continued to canvass the area with negative results. Officers proceeded to make contact with the complainant, who was accompanied by a school official. Officers were informed that the student’s mother was notified of the incident. The school official stated that the student was at a school event which was private from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., but the four youths somehow got inside. The official stated that at approximately 10:15 a.m. she heard a student yelling “she stole my cellphone.” As she approached the commotion she noticed said four youths were not students of the school and notified management. Said youths were reportedly causing a disturbance and yelling something in regards to their families wanting to fight and that they saw the above complainant at the park and want to fight her. As management removed the youths, they reportedly were yelling profanities and threatening students and proceeded to stay outside as if they were waiting for the youths inside to leave. An officer also spoke with another student, who confirmed seeing three of the four youths, who approached her and threatened her at a park in the Bronx on April 6. She also stated that when she noticed the four youths on this date, they began crowding her and one female began touching her hair. As she began walking away, this party reportedly snatched her cellphone out of her pocket and attempted to run away but approximately 20-30 feet away she tripped, dropping the cellphone. She retrieved her phone, at which time school officials noticed the commotion and intervened. Supporting and owner’s depositions were completed by the students. Prior to leaving Dave & Buster’s, a legal guardian of one of the youths arrived and approached an officer, stating that she was looking for her daughter and believed her to be with some other youths who also failed to report to school on this date. She stated she was contacted by the school, who informed her that her daughter never showed up for school and that she saw a picture via social media that gave her reason to believe the daughter was at or in the area of the Pelham Manor Dave & Buster’s. The parent confirmed via surveillance snapshot that her daughter was one of the four youths.

12:27 p.m. – Received a call from a resident reporting that jewelry was missing from their residence and they believed that a worker currently on scene took the jewelry. Officers were dispatched, and upon arrival spoke with the suspect. The suspect stole jewelry items from the homeowner while installing an HVAC unit, and verbally admitted to taking the property and was subsequently arrested and transported to the Pelham Manor police station. The complainant stated that while driving her husband to the train station and dropping her son off at school, the Nest camera notified her that one of the technicians had entered her child’s bedroom. When she returned home, she immediately checked her jewelry box and noticed multiple pieces of jewelry missing. Jewelry worth a grand total of $5,800 was found in the suspect’s pocket and were identified by the complainant as her property. An owner’s and supporting deposition were completed. The scene was investigated and photographed by Detectives. The suspect was processed and arraigned, and bail was set at $2,500. The suspect was unable to post bail, and was subsequently transported to Westchester County Correctional Facility by the Pelham Town Constables. He was due to appear in court at a later date, and the recovered stolen property was secured into evidence.

1:25 p.m. – Received a call from the Fairway Market assistant manager reporting a larceny that just occurred. Officers were dispatched, and upon arrival, observed the complainant standing next to a full shopping cart out front of Fairway Liquors. The complainant pointed out a party matching the suspect’s description, walking briskly through the parking lot towards Smashburger. Officers proceeded in the party’s direction, resulting in her changing direction. The party was detained, and could not produce a photo ID, and identified herself. An officer informed the suspect of the consequences of such act, and confirmed her stated name verbally as well as written on paper. An inquiry returned that her information was not on file. The complainant confirmed her to be the party in question. She was placed under arrest at this time, and transported to the police station. Owner’s depositions, witness statements, and an itemized receipt were secured at this time. The property was returned to the store after it was itemized. While completing arrest paperwork at the police station, the suspect spontaneously uttered that due to being scared she provided a false name earlier, and stated her correct name. She was processed without incident. She was revealed to have an active warrant out of the NYPD for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree. The suspect was arraigned and bail set at $1,000 bail / $500 cash. The suspect was unable to post bail and was transported to the Westchester County Department of Corrections, and was due back in Pelham Town Court at a later date.

7:54 p.m. – Received a call from a resident, reporting a group of youths, approximately ten years of age, yelling profanities in the area of Highland Avenue and Boston Post Road. Officers were dispatched, and a canvass of the area yielded negative results and those parties were gone on arrival.

Thursday, April 11

9:49 a.m. – Received a call from a resident who stated that she believed someone tried to gain access to her back door entrance the prior evening when she wasn’t home. Officers were dispatched, and upon arrival, met with the complainant. She stated that she was notified by her nanny of what appeared to be a possible attempt to gain access to the residence via the rear kitchen door the previous day. The nanny stated that at 2:45 p.m. the previous day, she left the residence to pick up the children from school. At 4:30 p.m., she responded back to the residence and approached the rear yard and noticed the storm door was ajar with small scratch marks on the door frame next to the door knob on the kitchen door. She also noticed that the rear cellar door was lifted and propped open. She further stated that all doors of the residence were secured at the time and no entry was made into the residence. Other officers arrived on scene, and confirmed visual signs of attempted forced entry on the kitchen storm door and advised officers to notify the Detective division. A supporting deposition, owner’s deposition, and burglary worksheet were completed. Photos of the exterior of the home were taken, and the scene was processed for potential DNA evidence.

1:55 p.m. – A resident walked into the police station to report his wallet was lost at Glover Field. Complainant stated that at some point between 6:00 p.m. and 10:47 p.m. the previous day he lost his wallet while at Glover Field. He stated he only realized upon returning home and could not locate the wallet upon returning to Glover Field to look for it. He was advised to cancel his debit card and provided with an MV-278 form for his driver’s license. A supporting deposition and an owner’s deposition were completed.

Friday, April 12

4:18 p.m. – Received a call from a resident of Wolfs Lane, reporting a suspicious person who had knocked on his door and asked to see a Con Edison bill. The resident stated that the man was not a Con Edison worker, which caused concern. He described the party as a black male, 30 to 40 years of age, wearing business attire. Party was last seen walking South on Wolfs Lane. Officers were dispatched, and report they are with the party. Officers report the man was employed by Josco Energy, and was issued a warning for no permit.

5:11 p.m. – Officers were dispatched to the area of Shore Road and Pelhamdale Avenue on report of a two-car property damage only motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, officers observed the vehicles involved in the parking lot of 135 Shore Road. Officers spoke with one driver, who stated that while she was driving, she stopped at the red light at the intersection of Shore Road and Pelhamdale Avenue when the suspect rear-ended her vehicle. Officers then spoke to the other driver and asked for his driver’s license, to which he replied he did not have one. Officers observed that he had bloodshot/glassy eyes and there was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. An inquiry using his name and date of birth revealed his driving privileges to be revoked in New York State. He also had a warrant out of Port Jervis City for driving while intoxicated. The vehicle’s insurance had also been cancelled, and the vehicle was currently uninsured. An officer asked if he had been drinking, to which he admitted to having five “little” vodkas approximately five hours in the past. He consented to standardized field sobriety tests, wherein he performed poorly, and test clues indicated intoxication. A preliminary breath test yielded a BAC of .42%. He was transported to the police station, and his vehicle impounded. Later breath tests at 5:08 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. yielded an error result on the alcohol sensor. He was later transported to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital for a blood alcohol test. He was arraigned at 8:15 a.m. the following day, and bail was set at $5,000 cash and $10,000 bond. He was later turned over to the Pelham Town Constables for transport to Westchester County Jail.

7:53 p.m. – Received a call from a resident of Carol Place reporting a solicitor had knocked on his door and tried to sell him windows. The resident described the party as a black man who was last seen walking towards Esplanade. An officer was dispatched, and reports the area was canvassed and that the party was gone on arrival.

8:00 p.m. – Officers transported a party to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital for the party to submit to a chemical blood test pertaining to a DWI arrest. While at the hospital, the party was admitted for observation and screening due to showing signs of extreme intoxication, as well as having a fever of 100.7 degrees. At approximately 2:00 a.m., the party was discharged from the hospital, and transported back to the Pelham Manor police station in order to be processed for the aforementioned arrest.

8:23 p.m. – Received a call from a woman at Kinetic Sports Club at 872 Pelham Parkway, reporting a verbal dispute between herself and another female in the locker room. Officers were dispatched, and report the dispute was over a 5-year-old son being in the women’s locker room with his mother. The complainant was upset that the child might have observed her changing. Officers report the situation has been corrected, and both parties were leaving separately.

9:39 p.m. – Received a walk-in complaint from a resident reporting approximately 3 to 4 youths throwing rocks in the area of Edgemere Street. Officers were dispatched, and report the area was canvassed with negative results and the parties were gone on arrival.

11:20 p.m. – Received a 911 hang-up call from a number that came back to a residence on James Street. Officers were dispatched, and report the homeowner had dialed in error. All in order.

Saturday, April 13

11:04 a.m. – Received a call from a person at the Dollar Tree at 806 Pelham Parkway in regards to damage done to his vehicle. Officers were dispatched, and upon arrival spoke to the complainant, who stated that at approximately 9:00 a.m. this date he went into the Dollar Tree to shop. When he returned to his vehicle at approximately 9:34 a.m., he noticed a sticky substance on the hood of his vehicle that had not been there when he entered the store. He tried removing the substance with a cloth but was unsuccessful. The sticky material on the car then began to erode the paint on the vehicle. A supporting and owner’s deposition were completed. Photos of the vehicle damage were taken.

11:37 a.m. – A resident walked into the police station to make a report in regards to unauthorized charges made to the UberEats and Lyft account that she had created for her child. She stated that between December 3, 2018, and January 24, 2019, the account was charged for multiple services that her daughter never requested, costing approximately $2,000. She canceled her UberEats and Lyft accounts and reported the fraud to her financial institution. The bank has since refunded all of the money, however, UberEats and Lyft deny the fraud claim. The bank is now requesting a police report to support the fraud claim. A supporting and owner’s deposition were completed, as well as an identity theft file consent document. Bank statements were placed into evidence.

5:27 p.m. – Received a call from a resident, reporting loud music in the area of Prospect Avenue. Officers were dispatched, and report the music was coming from The Manor Club and that the event had ended for the night.

8:25 p.m. – Received a call from a resident, reporting loud music in the area of Mount Tom Road. Officers were dispatched, and report the situation was unfounded.

9:25 p.m. – Received a call from a security company reporting an activated burglary alarm at a Monterey Avenue residence. Officers were dispatched, and report all appeared secure.
